What to do when you have harvested your specimen and are considering mounting it.

  1. Waterfowl: Place soaking wet paper towels around the head and feet.  Then tuck the head under the wing and place specimen in a 13 gallon garbage bag.  Try to get as much air out of the bag as possible, tie the end of the bag, and then place in freezer as soon as possible.  Do not worry about blood and/or mud.  The important thing is to get it properly packaged and frozen as soon as possible.
  2. Upland Game: Place soaking wet paper towel around the head.  Don’t worry about the feet in this category.  Then tuck the head under the wing and place specimen in a 13 gallon garbage bag.  If it is a pheasant, do not try to tie the end of the bag but let the tail hang loosely and place the bird in the freezer.  For all other upland game that do not have long tails like pheasants, you can get as much air out of the bag as possible, tie the end of the bag, and then place in freezer as soon as possible.
  3. Contact me when you would like to drop off your birds.
  4. How long will the birds last in the freezer if they are properly packaged? Birds will only last a few months if you are placing them in a frost-less freezer regardless of how you package them.  If you have a regular chest freezer that does accumulate frost (not a frost-less freezer) then you may have up to 2 years to store it there.  One thing to note is that the higher quality specimen you give to me nearly always equals a higher quality mount in the end.  Try not to wait too long to get your birds to me.

Skulls (Europeans)

We send all our skulls in to professionals that have dermestid beetles. Boiling out skulls typically breaks down the bones and leaves the skull in poorer quality than if dermestid beetles can consume all the flesh without degradation.

Tanning

If you are interested in soft-tanning hides and/or rugging your hides, please contact us because we can help you with that as well.  Again, the important thing is to get your hides in the freezer as soon as possible so that the flesh doesn’t begin to rot.

Wholesale Bird Taxidermy

A large part of our business is doing wholesale bird taxidermy for other taxidermists. If you are a taxidermist in need of someone to complete all or some of your birds, please contact us.  We can send you our wholesale prices and talk over some of the other details.  We have been completing wholesale bird taxidermy for nearly 12 years and have largely retained all those ‘customers’ from the very beginning.

Large Installations

  1. Flocks:  We have recently begun large installations (projects) such as snow goose flocks and mallard flocks.  Our most recent project involved mounting and installing a combination of snow geese, mallards, white-fronted geese, and Canada geese to mimic a large flock coming into a field.  Not only are we able to mount all these birds in various positions to complement one another and give the perception of a flock nearly landing, we can also install them in your home or cabin.
  2. Some businesses have also utilized flocks of snow geese and other birds to improve acoustics in their buildings and also to attract customers. If you are a business owner that has a love for wildlife and hunting, you may want to consider adding this attraction to your store.  Please contact us for further information.

Outfitters

  1. Pheasant Outfitters:  We work with several pheasant outfitters in the surrounding areas, and we would love to work with you.  We do our best to offer the highest quality pheasant mounts that are also practical and easy to ship.  We are also able to offer discounts to those outfitters who want to mass order mounts to have them available for their customers when they come to hunt.  Please contact us if you are interested in partnering with us.
  2. Waterfowl Outfitters: If you need a taxidermist to complete your customer’s work, please contact us.  We realize that many of your customers are out of state and therefore have perfected shipping mounts across the US.  Please contact us if you are interested in partnering with us.
  3. Turkey Outfitters:  We have established a drop-off location in Rapid City for those turkey outfitters located in Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and western South Dakota.  We are able to ship turkey mounts anywhere in the US.  We would love to work with you.  Please contact us if you are interested in partnering with us.
